The Ilyushin Il-62 is a long-range jet airliner developed by the Soviet Union in the 1960s, designed to carry passengers intercontinentally. It was the world's largest jet airliner at the time of its introduction and the first with a rear-mounted four-engine layout.
Built for both civilian and government use, the Il-62 served as the Soviet answer to Western long-haul aircraft like the Boeing 707. Its robust construction and impressive range made it a reliable workhorse for Air Koryo even to this day.

Despite its heavy tail-mounted engine configuration, which required a special rear landing gear to prevent tipping, the Il-62 was praised for its smooth ride and durability. It also served as a presidential aircraft for Soviet leaders, symbolising its prestige.
